Viola is about to begin her freshman year, not in her beloved Brooklyn, but in miserable (so she thinks) South Bend, Indiana at the Prefect Academy for Young Women. It is the same school her mother spent one year receiving an invaluable education decades ago, and she is hoping that her daughter will have the same life-changing experience she did. Fat chance! Viola is prepared for the worst, ready to document her life in boarding school hell with her trusty video camera and fancy editing software. She is the quintessential Brooklyn girl - trendy, snarky, and jaded. But what Viola masks with her quick wit and one liners is her nervousness at being a fish out of water in a new school. Initially, she does not make a very good impression on her four roommates. Viola misses her BFF, Andrew, and her crush Tag, and her friend Caitlin. She is a big ball of misery, until the day that her roommates lay it on the line. Viola can be miserable, but she can't be a Debbie Downer and ruin THEIR good time. Viola pulls it together and in the process, begins to discover her true talent as a filmmaker. She even has a chance at romance with a boy at the neighboring all boys' school.
I really enjoyed this book. I have read Adriana Trigiani's adult books and I was a little wary reading this one, as I find that some great adult authors do not write great teen books, but this book was exceptional! I really liked Viola and didn't want the book to end. I hope there are more books about Viola to come.
