Painting Class: Oil and Acrylics
Fridays, July 11 through August 29, 9:30 - 12:00
Whatever your skill level, learn painting with oils or acrylics from instructor Debbie Wnuk. A supply list will be given upon registration. Class is limited to 12 students and there is a $40 registration fee. Make check or money order payable to WMPL.

Meet Assemblyman Rob Walker
Thursday, July 24, 6:30 - 8:30
Assemblyman Rob Walker will be holding a "Town Hall" meeting here at the Library. The meeting is one in a series of stops on Mr. Walker’s "Listening Tour" of the 15th Assembly District. You are invited to come to speak with the Assemblyman on any subject that is important to you, whether it’s high taxes, school aid, the economy, or just to chat. We hope to see you then.

National Night Out
Tuesday, August 5, 5:00 - 8:00
The Library will participate in this annual event. National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. Ceremonies begin at 6:30 at Bunky Reid Park, Broadway, Westbury. For further information contact 997-2926, Ext. 267.

AARP Driver Safety Program, P1 &P2
Monday, July 21 & Tuesday, July 22, 9:30 - 1:30
AARP conducts this 2-session driver safety program for those 50 years of age and over. You must attend both sessions. Please bring a copy of your driver's license to register. Registration begins Saturday, July 12 for Westbury and Carle Place residents. Out-of-district residents may register July 14, if space is available. The fee is $10 (check or money order only) payable to AARP. Class is limited to 35 participants.

Empire Safety Defensive Driver, P1 & P2
Monday, August 18 and Tuesday, August 19, 6:00 - 9:00 This six-hour class is taught here at the Library for those individuals who wish to lower their premiums. To register call Mr. Anthony Palumbo at 631-254-6202 of Empire Safety Council, 63 East Lakeland Street, Bayshore, NY 11706. Class limit 45, fee $28.

Luncheon Cruise/Bateaux New York
Tuesday, July 29
Experience the ultimate fusion of gourmet dining and exceptional service in a setting unlike any other. Rich hardwood floors gleam underfoot. The Immigrant Experience
Tuesday, August 12
Start with a delicious lunch served family-style at one of the oldest and finest Russian restaurants in Brighton Beach, New York-- Primorski. Meet our guide and enjoy a brief stroll along the beachfront boardwalk (weather permitting) and Brighton Beach Avenue. Take a narrated journey through the heart of Brooklyn, passing several recent immigrant neighborhoods. In Manhattan’s Lower East Side, enjoy a pre-museum walking tour of the surrounding streets, rich in immigrant history. Tour the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. This "living history" apartment takes visitors back to 1916 as an authentically-costumed interpreter guides visitors as though they were new arrivals seeking information about life on the Lower East Side. Video slide show and exhibits as well. This is an excellent and unusual trip. Cost is $68 payable to WMPL. Registration for Westbury and Carle Place residents begins upon receipt of the newsletter.

Mohonk Mountain House
Monday, September 8
Mohonk Mountain House is a historic and distinguished American resort hotel located atop the Shawangunk Ridge in Ulster County, New York. On this day trip, enjoy the award-winning gardens and a Victorian maze, reflecting French, Italian and mid-19th century English landscaping. A delicious buffet lunch is included. Also enjoy a behind-the-scenes kitchen tour and lemonade and cookies before departure. Cost is $83 payable to WMPL. Computer 1st Grade for Adults
Thursday, June 26, 6:30 - 8:30
In this workshop you will learn how to work with text including inputting, inserting, moving and erasing. Learn basic word processing skills, understand commands and dialog boxes, and setup and create an email. Registration necessary, limit of 24 students (2 per computer) and $5 non-refundable fee.

Blood Pressure Screening
Wednesday, July 9, 10:00 - 12:00
Free blood pressure screening conducted by St. Francis Hospital. Offered at our library every other month.

Pilates
Wednesdays, July 16 - August 27 (August 13 class will meet Tuesday, August 12)
Learn the techniques of Joseph A. Pilates. Exercise with stretching and breathing that will warm up the muscles and help to make you feel stronger and more flexible. This beginner/intermediate class will incorporate floor exercise along with the flexibility and strength training of Pilates. Please be prepared with a mat and water and wear comfortable clothing. Mary Ellen Petassi, our instructor, is a certified personal trainer and a Pilate’s instructor with the American Council of Exercise. Fee $30 payable to WMPL for this session.

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hossein
There will be no meetings of the discussion group in July or August, but join us in September when we will talk about the compelling and moving best seller, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. Discussion leader: Library Board Trustee, C. Yvette Long.
