1,2,3 Play With Me

Tuesdays, September 21 – October 19, 10am
Bring your toddler between the ages of one and three to the meeting room to play and learn,  using toys that develop motor skills.  There will be a different art activity each week and an expert will be on-hand to answer questions about child rearing.  Materials available in English, French and Spanish.  Se habla espanol.  Free.  Register in advance.

RandiRobics Intergalactic Fitness Show

Get ready to jump around! Back by popular demand, Randi Chenkin will be here to present a fun and   interactive space age fitness program for children ages 5 and up. Register in advance and don’t forget to wear your comfy workout clothes!

Together Book Talk for Kids and Parents

Wednesdays, September 29, October 6, 20, 27, November 10 & 17, 6:30pm
The New York Council for the Humanities has joined forces with the Westbury Library to offer Together-Book Talk for Kids and Parents, a family reading and discussion series that is designed to promote lively, thought-provoking intergenerational dialogue.  This is a six-session program where 9 to 11-year-olds and their parents get together to talk about books and ideas. Books, snacks, and activities for younger siblings are all provided at each session.  The program is free and open to the public, although pre-registration is required. Funding for this program was provided by the New York State Council for the Humanities.

Wii Punch Out

Friday, October 15, 3:30pm
Have fun and get a work out while competing against virtual opponents in the Wii boxing game, Punch Out. This program is for children in grades 3-6.  Please register in advance.

Little Chefs

Thursday, October 21, 3:30pm
Throw on your aprons and join us to make a tasty, no-bake treat. This program is for young children ages PreK-2nd grade.  Please register in advance.

Halloween Craft & Parade

Friday, October 29, 3:30pm
Come to the library and make a spooky craft and parade through the adult library looking for treats!  Don’t forget to wear your costume!  For grades PreK-6.  Please register in advance.

Circle Time & Toy Center

Fridays, 10:30 - 11:30
For children ages 6 months to 4 years of age. 15 minutes of songs, fingerplays and stories, plus some quiet play time for you to share with your child. Meet other parents and caregivers too!

LEGOS Wanted!

The Children’s Library would like to start a monthly LEGO Club for children in grades 2-6 but we need your help!  Donate new and used LEGOS to the library. The program will begin in early 2011.  Each month we will pick a theme and build together.  If you have any extra LEGO blocks that you are willing to part with, please drop them off to the Children’s Library any time the library is open.  Thank you for your support!

CHILDREN’S SATELLITE LIBRARY

At Park Avenue School, 100 Park Avenue,  Westbury, NY 11590. The Satellite Library at the Park Avenue  School will reopen on Tuesday, October 5.  It will serve children through sixth grade (those under nine must be accompanied by an adult). Satellite hours are from 3:30 to 5:30 on Tuesday and Thursday on school days.  Puzzles, games, art activities, books to bring home and homework help are available, and story time is at 4:00. Library cards may be applied for or renewed.
